Welcome to Ralph J. Bunche
Ralph J Bunche Academy is home to students from many racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. They come to us from homes all over the Albuquerque area including Rio Rancho and Los Lunas. The Mascot of our school, the Griffin was selected by the students who believed that the best representative for our school would be the mythical creature who is a composite of the eagle and the lion and combines wisdom and strength. The Griffin also represents the diversity that is Ralph J Bunche Academy.
Message from the Principal
This next nine weeks we will be focusing on final preparations for the Standardized tests given at the end of March after spring break, and projects with Africa as the central theme. We are working with Africana Studies at the University of New Mexico to ensure the integrity of the information that we share with the students. This UNM partnership will also provide support for teachers and students and will culminate in a presentation of projects at the University of New Mexico Student Union Building on Monday, April 23. We will provide more information as we get closer to this day.
It is also important for all parents to know that the New Mexico Department of Public Education has mandated the dates for the Standards Based Assessments to begin the week after Spring Break, which is March 13-17. We must test begin testing on Tuesday, March 20, and will then test Wednesday, March 21; Thursday, March 22; Tuesday, March 27; Wednesday, March 28; Thursday, March 29, and Tuesday, April 3. We will test in the mornings only (9 :00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.), so please do not make any appointments for children in grades 3 - 8 on these days and times. It is important for the future of your children and of the school that this test is taken very seriously and that children are present for the actual test dates. Experience has taught us that children do not do as well in make up situations so we would ask that you reserve these last two weeks in March and make sure that your students are here. We thank you in advance for your support and your cooperation.

No Staff will be available so all students must be picked up immediately after 12:00 on this day. No School Monday, February 20th, Presidents' Day.
